Looking Ahead

Something You May Have Missed:
It's a lengthy read, but this Vanity Fair article is a fitting sendoff for the Bush administration. The last eight years are given insight and perspective by officials who tried to balance their duties while appeasing a leader whose actions were largely based on moral and religious fervor instead of practicality and foresight.

Game of the Week:
Everyone on this blog will be counting the hours down until Sunday, when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. Touchdown Jesus (Kurt Warner) looks to lead the Cards to their first Superbowl as an Arizona franchise.

Book of the Week:
The Shotgun Rule by Charlie Huston. A fabulous piece of 'pulp noir', this crime story follows four delinquent kids after a petty burglary goes horribly awry. Kind of like "Stand by Me" on steroids.

TV Event of the Week:
As we report on the comings and goings of popular culture, we are required to inform you that a new season of American Idol begins this Tuesday. I guess something needs to keep women busy at night after the cooking and cleaning are done.

Matchup of the Week:
Paul Blart: Mall Cop versus the median IQ of America. If that film rules the box office next weekend, it should finally open our eyes as to why others hate our freedom.

Ahead on Pomp Culture:
This week marks the debut of two new features to Pomp Culture: Pompous or Not Pompous, and In Defense Of. We will also be holding a press conference to introduce our newest PC writer.
